The Drying Rack Trick

dryingrack

The other weekend, I made a pit stop at ACE Hardware to pick up a few items for my place. The big purchase was a second drying rack for my laundry. Then it dawned on me: How did I become a guy who needs two drying racks to do laundry? Well, as a video editor [...]

Try a Little Tenderness

otis-redding-450

Real quick post today, that, although originally unrelated to today’s festivities, felt appropriate to hold over the weekend for this morning.  Have had a song running through my head just about daily for the last week or two. Try a Little Tenderness was originally by the inimitable Otis Redding, though, to be honest, it’s been Three [...]

Spotting The Red Flare

red-flag1

Some of you may find this offensive, but trust me… I’ve done the research. I’m a fan of 100 Red Flags and I’ve been following their blog and twitter for a while now. Their mission is to save single women from themselves in order to help you navigate the dating scene. Urban Dictionary describes a [...]

This entry is the eleventh in a series of twelve daily posts, reflecting on the twelve days of my trip with my father to Israel in September 2011… Following the theme for much of the trip so far, this morning consisted of a lavish breakfast at Yosi’s followed by more coffee with Cousin Meir in [...]

Raging seas: The tsunami pours through trees and engulfs homes on the coast of Natori, Miyagi Prefecture, after the earthquake struck

Raging seas: The tsunami pours through trees and engulfs homes on the coast of Natori, Miyagi Prefecture, after the earthquake struck

This morning, and for many of us last night, we learned of an 8.9 magnitude earthquake that hit Japan with massive destruction. Within moments, Tsunami warnings were sent to areas, including Hawaii and other pacific islands, so adequate preparations and alerts could be triggered. Twitter became ablaze with information and heartfelt thoughts with #Japan, #Tsunami and #earthquake as the most prominent hash tags. CNN.com has devoted their focus on the main page to related articles, Google has stepped up in a way only Google can by creating the Google Person Finder for Japan where information about survivors can be added and searched for helping distant family and friends determine the status of their loved ones.

Prepare n’ Flow

“By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.” – Benjamin Franklin

This is a quote I keep dear to my heart. Being a filmmaker you have to live or die by it, since so many things can go wrong during a production. Having your ducks in a row isn’t a sign of  being OCD, but the wisdom of due diligence. This past weekend, I was reminded of it’s importance. (more…)

The Importance of Sacrifice

Ideas on what to give up for Lent

If you take a look at some of the greatest men in history, you will realize that, among many of the qualities they have in common, the power of sacrifice is undoubtedly the most significant one. Great fathers (and yes, mothers too) sacrifice their earnings and personal time to push their children forward. Soldiers give up any sense of a guaranteed life to protect what they most love. Oskar Schindler gave up most of his fortune to save the lives of over 1000 persecuted Jews.

Part of manning up requires some form of sacrifice. Whether it is avoiding the easy life or simple vices, the idea of giving up something is rarely seen today. (more…)

Saying goodbye to your buddy’s bachelorhood is never easy. Those wild college-style weekends will slowly turn into backyard BBQs that end at 7 PM. However, if chosen as Best Man or Groomsman, you have to soldier up and own up to certain responsibilities. Because, hey, he’d do it for you if you were hungover and wearing a tuxedo at the altar. Besides making sure his collar doesn’t have lipstick blotches, here are some ideas on how to help your friend through this already-stressful-enough day.

You had me at Beer and Marshmallows

Chocolate Covered Beer MarshmallowsPhoto and credit goes to thekitchn.com

I’ll admit, when it comes to baking I am almost lost. I understand that it is closer to chemistry than the more manly and primitive art of grilling. With that being said, how could you not love this combination? Even the warnings are manly as if not done correctly the super heated sugar and beer mixture can explode in your kitchen like Napalm. This may be the most dangerous use for beer that does not include drinking it. Now to find someone who can bake.

CALLING ALL MEN

Team Chest Hair, East Coast branch

I remember being in Vegas once, sitting in a bar at the Bellagio and talking to a girl about God knows what. She made fun of me for not getting the reference to one of her jokes. I playfully said to her that I would never make fun of her, to which she replied “Hey, if you can’t take the heat, get out of the kitchen.” She wanted to play, so I rolled the dice too. I said “Well, men don’t belong in the kitchen anyway.” She stared daggers at me to the point where I almost ordered another shot of tequila. Then I said “Actually, the best chefs in the world are men, so I’ll stay in the kitchen.” At this point the girl was plotting my death. (more…)

  • Saddleback iPad Case Giveaway 05/18/2012
I’ve been an iPad owner for almost a year now.  I love it. I feel like I’m holding some magical window to the future whenever I’m using it. One minute I can be reading a biography of Theodore Roosevelt and the next I can be watching a free video lecture about Roosevelt on YouTube. And [...] Related posts: Congratulations to Saddleback Leather Company Man Bag […]
